I’m Mikey van der Meer — a Director of Photography based in Cape Town and available world wide.

 

I began in advertising as an Art Director and Designer working on major brands across digital and traditional agencies. Alongside developing my own photography and film projects, this experience shaped how I approach visual storytelling and the journey from concept to execution.

My work evolved into cinematography through commercial sets as a Focus Puller and 1st AC, collaborating closely with directors, DOPs and production teams.
 
Across 14 years of combined experience, I bring conceptual thinking and hands-on craft to create work that feels real and intentional. My approach is collaborative and considered, shaping light, tone and movement in service of the story and the needs of the project.

When I’m not on set, you’ll likely find me chasing saltwater, making coffee, fishing, or travelling — always with a camera in hand.
